The Art of Conversation: 1st Edition

One thing no one can accuse me of is being a jabbermouth.

Conversation*Walks into kitchen at work, sees The Director*

Her: “Hey ?#@*&%!, how was your weekend?”

Me: “Uneventful. (pause) Yours?”

Her: “Been uneventful myself for the last three weekends. But this one.”

Me: “I see.”

(pause)

Me: (feigning interest) “What’d you do?”

Her: “I hung out with my friends.”

Me: “Hmm.” (can’t think of anything further to say, leaves and goes back to desk)

If only you could pass out cards with this url in lieu of small talk! Because you speak so intelligently, honestly and confidently here. I feel like you are Clark Kent at work and Superman here.

  2. The Virgin Says:

There’s a big difference. Here I can stop and think about what I’m going to say and revise it if I so choose. Unlike live conversation. Sometimes I wish I could stop time like Zack Morris frequently did on Saved By the Bell to work on a thought.
